Koda and Kenai live a wonderful life at Luvin Arms Animal Sanctuary in Erie, Colorado. Koda the duck and her best friend Kenai the chicken were abandoned in a small box in a park. When they were found, they were covered in feces; Koda had breathed in so much feces that it was packed inside her nasal cavity. When they came to Luvin Arms, everyone could tell that they were best friends. Wherever Kenai went, Koda followed. They are completely inseparable. Even though they represent different species, Koda and Kenai show that all species can bond over shared experiences or trauma. This picture was taken shortly after their rescue. Arranged like a heart, it’s almost as if they knew they were in a safe place and could finally express their love for one another.
Each photograph comes with a small notecard with the individual’s name and story.
