Beau was born to freedom in 2019. He will live his entire life in safety at Dominifarm Sanctuary in Kuna, Idaho. His cow-mama wasn’t ready to be a mom when she gave birth, so Beau was bottle fed by the owner of the sanctuary for the first 9 months of his life. He became so attached to her that he would wait for her on the front porch to come home from work everyday! Now that he is grown up, he lives with his cow-mama again, but is still very attached to his human-mama too.
In this photo, Beau is “chewing cud.” Cows are ruminants, which means they graze grass from the earth, chew it, swallow it, partially digest it in their stomach, then spit it up into their mouth, chew again, then swallow again! Ruminants also have 4 chambers in their stomachs to help digest tough food such as grass.
